South Carolina Water Utilities was made aware of a sanitary sewer overflow into Twenty-Five Mile Creek in Elgin, S.C., on June 8. This resulted from a sewer force main break at the Hunter’s Run lift station.
The team repaired the break, cleaned and disinfected the area, and reported the incident to the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services. After stopping the spill, water samples were collected from the creek, as required by law, for testing.
