Treatment Plant Project

French Settlement Water Company, which provides water service to customers in Hammond Heights, announced a $375,000 investment in the neighborhood’s water infrastructure. The investment will help increase the reliability and resiliency of the Tisdale Water Treatment Plant. Construction started at the treatment facility on January 27, 2023. No road closures are expected.

French Settlement Water Company will build a duplex pumping station to augment the existing single-pump system and install a new generator for powering the water treatment plant in the event of a weather-related or local utility power outage.

Pipeline Cleaning Project

The groundwater in Livingston Parish contains naturally occurring levels of iron and manganese. While these are essential elements in human nutrition, higher levels in the water system can coat water pipes and lead to discoloration of your drinking water. Our goal is to reduce the mineral content prior to use and provide high quality water for you and your family, or business.

In October of this year, we will begin a significant water system improvement project to remove accumulated sediments by manually cleaning the interior of our water lines. The cleaning process will help to improve water quality and system flow rates.

We will isolate water mains that are being cleaned by closing valves. This process will temporarily reduce your water pressure. The freshly cleaned water mains will then be flushed to remove any debris until the water is clear. Customers will be notified of the project schedule via text and email alerts, as well as our website. It is advised not to use water during the project as sediment is flushed from the system.

When service is restored, you may experience some discoloration and/or sediment in your water. Customers should run the cold water at all taps and faucets for 2-to- 3 minutes to flush the remaining sediment from plumbing. If your water is still discolored after running your taps, contact us at LACustomerCare@swwc.com.

For more information about scheduled maintenance, you can now access our customer portal. (More information about the customer portal is provided at the end of this letter.)

 Greensand Filters

As a long-term solution to effectively remove iron and manganese from the water, French Settlement Water Company applied for a $2.5-million grant in January from the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) to invest in Greensand Filters. We continue to wait for state approval on this grant and will notify customers when the project is approved.
