The most important piece of advice from health experts to help us stay safe from COVID-19 is to wash your hands.

According to the Centers for Disease control, one of the best ways to protect yourself from COVID-19 is to clean your hands often.

Wash your hands often with soap and water for a least 20 seconds especially after you have been in public, or after coughing, sneezing, or blowing your nose

Make sure to follow these five steps when washing your hands:

  1. Wet your hands with clean, running water (warm or cold), turn off the tap, and apply soap.
  2. Lather your hands by rubbing them together with the soap. Lather the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails.
  3. Scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds. Need a timer? Hum the “Happy Birthday” song from beginning to end twice.
  4. Rinse your hands well under clean, running water.
  5. Dry your hands using a clean towel or air dry them.

If soap and water are not readily available, use hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Make sure to cover all surfaces of your hands and rub together until they start to feel dry.
