Treatment Plant Project
French Settlement Water Company, which provides water service to customers in Hammond Heights, announced a $375,000 investment in the neighborhood’s water infrastructure. The investment will help increase the reliability and resiliency of the Tisdale Water Treatment Plant. Construction started at the treatment facility on January 27, 2023. No road closures are expected.
French Settlement Water Company will build a duplex pumping station to augment the existing single-pump system and install a new generator for powering the water treatment plant in the event of a weather-related or local utility power outage.
We are committed to providing safe, high-quality and reliable water. We hear the concerns of our Livingston Parish customers and are working diligently to solve the causes of water discoloration.
The groundwater in Livingston Parish contains naturally occurring levels of iron and manganese, which can create a dark coating on water pipes, in turn tinting the water. These aesthetics and minerals are harmless, although we are working to attain clear water.
SouthWest Water Company applied for a $2.5M grant from the Louisiana Department of Health to invest in infrastructure improvements, including Greensand Filters, which remove iron and manganese from water. As we await a response from the LDH with approval for the project and grant, we will use a technique called pigging, an internal pipe-cleaning process used to remove matter like iron and manganese from the inside of water pipes. Customers will be notified of the timeline and any resulting boil water notices due to the drop in water pressure during pigging. We are happy to bring these innovative solutions to this community and invest in technologies to improve our customers’ experiences.
